Women in Manufacturing
In conjunction with Women’s History Month, MAMTC would like to promote Women in Manufacturing month as well. According to The State of Women-Owned Businesses, 2016 report, there are 146,400 manufacturing companies owned by women across the US, employing almost 541,000 people. The number of companies defined as such has grown by 29% since 2002. These are impressive numbers.
There are women in the manufacturing sector all across the state of Kansas and across this great nation of ours, each of them working in and promoting manufacturing. You might check out www.womeninmanufacturing.org for further information and details about the accomplishments of some of them.
Women represent a vast talent pool
Women are manufacturing’s largest pool of untapped talent. While women represent nearly half (47 percent) of the total U.S. labor force, they comprise less than a third (27 percent) of the manufacturing workforce1. Across nearly every manufacturing sector in the U.S., women are underrepresented. The proportion of women in leadership roles in manufacturing companies also lags behind other U.S. industries2, yet the pool of experienced professionals is significant. Across the total U.S. labor force, women earn more than half of the associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in the U.S.3 Once in the workforce, they are advancing in their careers, holding more than half of all U.S. managerial and professional positions4.
Tiffany Stovall, VP of Partnerships, and Jaylene Shea, Regional Director in Wichita, are two of MAMTC’s finest employees. These two individuals work every day with manufacturing companies in Kansas, promoting manufacturing growth in a variety of methods. Each of them play a key and vital role in the success of MAMTC, and to the success of the MEP program in Kansas. Thank you.
